Aquamarine Birthstone

     Aquamarine, the birthstone of March, is also the gemstone for the 19th year of marriage and derives its name from sea water. It sparkles like the sea and its colour is light to medium blue, sometimes with slight greenish splash. According to some legends it is the treasure of mermaids, with the power to keep sailors safe at sea. Aquamarine is always a pastel blue, but the darker the colour, the more valued it is. As well, pure blue is preferred, with no green in it, greenish stones are less expensive. Because the colour is generally pale, the stone should have a good clarity. They are often cut in ovals and emerald cuts.
