Peridot Birthstone

     Peridot, the birthstone of August, is also the anniversary gemstone for the 16th year of marriage. Peridot is a volcanic gem. The bright yellow-green to green coloured gemstone has a colourful history. It was mined in ancient Egypt and it was done at night because the legend had it that Peridot could not be easily seen during the day. Much of the recent popularity of Peridot is due to the fact that it is known as the birthstone of August and people therefore wear it because it is thought to bring the wearer success, peace and good luck. The Unites States was the largest producer of Peridot for years, but now it is getting major competition from China and Pakistan.
