The clear diamond is also the birthstone for April. Diamond was discovered in 500 BC in India, and the name "diamond" comes from the Greek word "adamas", which means unconquerable. This is why the diamond has come to represent love and the eternity of it ( i.e., diamond engagement rings are extremely popular). The ancients believed that diamonds were hardened dew drops, splinters from the stars or crystallized lightening.
     A diamond is a crystallized carbon and is the hardest substance known to man. It has unique powers of light reflection and because it is composed of a single element it is the purest of all gemstones. It is a colourless stone.

Certificates:
     GIA certified diamonds are loose diamonds (not yet set in a ring or other setting) and have been certified by GIA (the Gemological Institute of America) or the AGS (also known as AGS certified) - American Gem Association. A certificate works as a "blue-print" of the diamond and tells you its measurements and weight and the details of its cut and quality. They serve as proof of the diamonds identity and value.

The healing power of gemstones:
     Gemstones are thought to contain healing powers. Diamonds are thought to protect against brain diseases, heal pituitary and pineal glands and draw out toxicity as a poison remedy.
