Associations:
     Often fine jewelry is approved by certain associations to be considered fine. Some of the more popular associations are as follows.

Gemological Institute of America (GIA):
     The GIA was established in 1931 as a non-profit educational resource organization for the gem and jewelry industry. It is committed to helping both the industry and the consumers to understand the world of gemmology by educating and providing services. It provides jewelers with knowledge, tools and training to better serve the consumer and to promote the integrity of the industry and secure the publics trust. Most fine jewelers strive to maintain GIA standards in order to provide dependability and quality service to their customers. http://www.gia.edu

American Gem Society (AGS):
     The American Gem society (since 1934) has a stand on business and professional excellence. It is best known for protecting and educating consumers and jewelers who are members and have earned AGS titles. A business with an AGS membership are separated from their competition as true and trusted trained experts. http://www.ags.org

Canadian Jewellers Association:
     This association was begun in 1884, and its purpose was and is to help jewelers strengthen their security measures and discourage jewelry store theft. It is a national association where its membership is obliged to maintain the highest level of personal integrity, honesty and business ethics. Members must comply with all government laws and regulations relating to the jewelry industry and abide by and support the CJA's Code of Ethics. As well, the CJA has a mandate for the jewelry industry as a whole - to encourage and support sales in Canada, and to offer enhancement of standards, knowledge and craftsmanship of its members through education. http://cja.polygon.net

Jewelers of America:
      This is the national association for the retail jeweler. It is both a centre of knowledge and an advocate for professionalism and high social, ethical and environmental standards in the jewelry trade.
